"Photo-Safari" (hunting for big game photos) began at 3PM from the benches at 2nd & Mkt. Sts. Members exchanged info about camera settings & file management preferences. No film cameras were present. Digital ruled the day.... no tripods were used...... stealth methods of image capture so as to be compact to avoid trip hazards.
ISO 400 was most frequently selected.
Heavy cloud cover from several days of rain finally passed-by, letting in copious quantities of late day, raking sunlight about 4 PM, after coffee......... then the shooting began in earnest. Several hundreds of images were captured in a one hour time span.... while walking only one city block! Church St between 2nd & 3rd Sts. So many photons were captured by members sensors that black holes were starting to appear around the cobblestones!
You shoulda been there!
Later, after 5:30, members strolled along 3rd St. until arriving at Silicon Gallery..... Philadelphia's Premier Print Makers. Rick the owner explained to members some of the printing techniques utilized to produce images on display. We learned that Rick had captured many of the images. The display was a showcase of various substrates & mounting methods used to produce brilliant, saturated, novelty prints (Plexi laminate, prints on brushed aluminum, heavy cotton rag papers, etc.). There was this photo from Dubai, we did not know why, many moving objects appeared out of registration. Rick explained how the photo was captured with a scanning back camera and that objects moving during the exposure reproduce as out of register. TRI COLOR ... like an out of register Dye Transfer Print from the 70's!
Around 7 PM all members went on their own ways..... satisfied that we had seen enough to hold us for a while.
A splendid time was had by all!
Come join with us next time.
Here are some of the photos I took....... other images from various members were viewed during the photo club meeting on 10/4/10 at school.....
